Florida, located in the south-eastern corner of the United States, has long been a favorite for both tourism and for retirement. With highly sought-after destinations such as Hollywood, Disneyland and Palm Beach, the Sunshine State retains a high level of popularity on the foreclosure listings of properties as well. There are over 1,000 foreclosed properties on the listings including those from bank foreclosures, government foreclosed and distressed properties, federal homes and commercial foreclosures. This is largely due to economic slumps and and the weakening dollar, as well as events specific to Florida (such as the hurricanes in past years and so forth). However, many see foreclosures as a solution to an inevitable mortgage problem where people are too quick and eager to buy houses that are not affordable to them in the short – and as it turns out, the long – term. The banks and the government then move on to repossess these homes and normally sell them off for a price at auctions. These properties are of especial interest to international investors from places like Latin American, Canada and Europe. Not surprising considering you can save up to 50% on a property investment in a Florida foreclosure auction. There is some risk involved but sitting through one auction is a great way to get geared up for the next one to actually bid. There is some evidence that informed buyers at Florida foreclosure auctions tend to do better in the auction game than the wealthier, but less knowledgeable, international buyers. Some of the most common areas on the foreclosure listings include Hollywood, Coral Springs, Miami, West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Homestead – as well as all major and minor cities. With a bit of common sense and a little bit of luck, it won't be too hard finding the ideal retirement location in the foreclosed real estate of the Sunshine State.
